What are Porcelain tiles?
Porcelain tiles are a part of the ceramic tiles family but have lot of additional and differentiating characteristics that include materials used, process of production and performance of tiles in extreme conditions.
Porcelain tiles are manufactured from highly refined clay, feldspar, silicone etc. The high degree of refinement makes them stronger, denser and more durable than ceramic tiles.
Porcelain tiles are fired low as well as very high temperatures for long periods of time, evaporating and thus removing most all water content. Their water absorption rate must never be greater than 0.5% to qualify as porcelain tiles. This makes them an ideal choice for usage in many areas.
It is specially suitable for exteriors. Having a low water absorption, there are virtually no chances of water seeping into its body. In European countries, when temperatures go sub zero, water will expand. This will crack other porous material that have a higher water absorption rate, but with Porcelain tiles, European homes will have great porcelain flooring year after year.
With extreme vitrification, the core body of a Porcelain tile is denser and stronger. This results in longer life even in temperate and tropical conditions.
For coastal countries of Europe, like, Italy, Greece, Spain etc, Procelain tiles are the natural choice for flooring and walls. Their overall properties make them totally suitable and ideal for the region.
Key Benefits of Porcelain Tiles:
- Extremely Low water Absorption Rate (≤0.5%)
- Non-Porous and denser
- Better durability, endurance and strength.
- Frost as well as UV Resistant
- Good for Underfloor Heating
- Virtually Maintenance Free
